I did the Memorial Day Biathlon yesterday. I took 1st in my age group! I was actually a little bit slower than last year, but I'm blaming it mainly on the heat. I did okay for the first couple of miles on the run, then the sun came out and I struggled the last three. By the time I came in for the transition, I was feeling pretty bad. I actually think I lost most of my time on my transition which was really bad because I was feeling pretty yucky. However once I got on the bike, I felt strong. The heat doesn't matter nearly as much on a bike because you create your own wind. Forgive me a little brag, but I'm actually pretty good on a bike. I flew past quite a few folks (men and women). I only got passed by one woman on the bike. I finished very strong. 5 mile run, 15 mile bike time: 1:34:59.
Today I got up and ran the hills in my neighborhood. I don't know how far I went, but I ran hills for about 45 minutes.

Congrats! Any cool bike racing moves you want to share with the group?
Sorry Timpani, I don't think I have any wonderful words of wisdom to help with biking. Supposedly it helps conserve energy if you shift gears a lot rather than "grinding the gears." I'm getting better about using my shifters, but that's not what makes me good at biking. I just happen to be something of a natural. I think it runs in the family, something about having huge Sever quads. Now I sound all puffed up an prideful. Sorry!
