Anyone know a good cure?

For shin splints?
I barely made it at all today because my shins were killing me! After about a half mile I had tears running down my face. So needless to say, the 15 minute mile was a bit out of my reach. But I did do the best I can. Maybe tomorrow!

oh, ugh, shin splints, that sucks. i have no clue, being as i am not, nor ever have been a runner. ask lisa. hey lisa! what do you do about shin splints? or renae. they're the runners. so how about it guys? the girl's in PAIN! way to bull through it. don't push yourself too hard though. you don't want to lay yourself up for weeks and weeks. and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. hey! how did my mother get on here?!

If my shins hurt really bad during a walk, I usually blame it on insufficient stretching. I think like 5 minutes of stretches is recommended before speed walking, which is definitely what you are doing! Good job on your time!

One definition I have heard for shin splints is, "too much, too soon." Also, a cause of them is because the calf muscle is so much stronger than the shin, causing a strain on the shin.
There are a few stretches that target the shins. Stand facing a wall, put your hands on the wall and then step back into a lung. If properly done, you'll feel it! :) Another, is to kneel on the floor, put your left hand on the floor and right hand under right shin. Lift shin off floor and hold for at least 15 seconds. It'll hurt for a little while, at least until you are over the shin splints.
The best cure is resting your legs!
