Tuesday Running 50 minutes (while pushing the jogging stroller)

I walked for 10 minutes afterwards too. I have "something" that is making me feel less than good so I did not get int he whole hour. V seems to have the same thing, but being him he's running a fever too. Q had it for a few days, and then got better, so hopefully V will do the same.

What is UP

So when did I last log in? I don't remember. I'm having issues with my neck/upper back/shoulder, so I laid off the Jillian. I skipped Friday and Monday. After my chiropractor visit last week, it's slowly getting better. I'm still running though, and I hope to be back to the weights at the end of the week?

Saturday I ran 13 miles and it felt GREAT!! I'm not sure what the difference was between last week and the week before. I suspect that it might be the Hammer Gel that I took between laps. It has caffeine in it, and since I don't usually take in much?? While I love that I felt so great for the entire run, I am NOT making a habit of doing caffeine shots. I'm saving those for race days ONLY. I'm just afraid that the effects will wear off. Hmm, out of curiosity, I just checked the stats on Hammer Gel, and not all of them have caffeine. In fact, I'm not sure if the one I took Saturday had any or not. I'm going to have to check this out further. I'm afraid of using these type of things too much during training, and having them not work during a race. It bears some looking into.

I ran 7 miles of nasty hills today.

Monday Weigh-in

No new working out. This toe is really causing some problems. It still hurts a whole lot, and every few days I get fresh bruising. *shakes fist* It could be I'm trying to do too much too quickly....naaaaaaaah, I would never do that. *said in a totally innocent voice*
So, I weighed in yesterday. I was super strict last week on the diet, and I was hoping(!) for at least a pound lost. I lost four!! Seriously, this rollar coaster is wearing me out, lol! I'm getting better at self control (which I've never had a problem with before! Not with eating anyway, ergh!), and with keeping track of things. Starting to adjust fairly well to how my brain is working now. Go me!

Monday Swimming 1 hour

10 minutes breast stroke
20 minutes freestyle
10 minutes backstroke
5 minutes freestyle
10 minutes backstroke
5 minutes kick board
I went slower this time because I was trying to get better at the technical aspects of the freestyle breathing. It was difficult trying to exhale under water more, and then only inhale when my head popped up (instead of trying to exhale and inhale when my head pops up). I'm working on it, I think it will get better with practice.

Also- went shopping with the family for about an hour.

Thursday Running 3 1/2 miles (45 minutes while pushing the jogging stroller)

I also walked home with the kids for 1 mile after I picked them up from school.

I was supposed to go trail running today, but my mom couldn't watch the kids. My great aunt had a massive stroke and is probably not going to make it. I think that made me tired and crappy feeling today after hearing the news last night. I did feel better while running today though. Gotta love running for lifting the mood.

Wednesday Jillian Michaels 25 minutes (Workout 1- 10 lb hand weights)

I agree with Renae, how did it get to be Wednesday? I still have not decided what diet to check out yet. I'm just trying to eat healthy carbs and 6-9 fruits and veggies a day to maintain my weight right now.

Also- went walking with the kids for 1 hour today and then took them to the park for another hour. While at the park I did 30 "semi" pull ups in 3 sets of 10. I was letting my feet touch the ground, but pulling up as much of my body weight as I could. I've always wanted to be able to do a pull up, and maybe doing these will help me get strong enough!

Wednesday Already?

Okay, so I've been totally and completely failing on my diet, AND I missed my run yesterday due to insomnia. But today is a new day. It's all about the getting back up again and again and again, right?

So in an effort to partially make up for yesterday's missed run, I tacked an extra fourth onto my usual Wednesday bike in the basement. So that is 50 minutes of you know what on that thing DONE.

Ya'll I just can't do this diet thing. Or any other thing in life. BLAH! I couldn't sleep last night, so I didn't get up and run today. Will I? I don't know. I have other things to accomplish. BLAH!!!! BLAHH!!!!! BLAHHH!!!!

Monday Running 1 hour

1/2 paved trail and 1/2 dirt trail. I did some exploring on these dirt trails I always see when I take S on the Watershed Trail. Big E took the day off so I was able to run it on my own. It was super fun! I was wearing my Nikes so I stumbled more than usual, but no falling down all the way falls this time ;)

ETA- also went hiking with the kids for 1 1/2 hours today. I was carrying a 25 pound toddler for about 1/4 of that time.

Getting Back at It

I worked out everyday last week except Friday (and Sunday). I was just too busy Friday. I did horrible on the diet! Saturday I ran 13 miles with Trent.

Today I'm going back to spark people and going to try again, even though I don't really feel like I'm getting much of anywhere. I did Jillian RI30, week 4 today. I didn't even die! (but it was still hard).

This Week's Weigh-In

So, no working out for me last week. Probably not this week either. I'm not healing as fast as I used to! And I didn't heal very fast then either, lol! I still can't walk very much on this freaking toe without a lot of pain, so I'm just going to take it slow and easy. Gosh darn it!!
I weighed in this morning very optimistic because I did pretty good on my diet last week. Not perfect, but not terrible either. Aaaaaaand, I gained THREE POUNDS! What the freak?!! Not fair!! All the pain and none of the reward?! Argh! So I'm going to get really anal with the diet this week. Pull out the measuring cups and make sure everything is EXACT, and see what happens. I can't afford to gain weight right now! Not and reach my goal weight by the time we go on vacation to the beach!! I REFUSE to be a whale the beach! R-E-F-U-S-E.

Saturday Trail Running 55 minutes

In my Vibrams. I fell for the first time EVER! I tripped on a tree root, go figure. I was glad I fell in some mud because I think it kept me from getting seriously hurt. It was messy though. My shoulder is acting a bit wonky and I got some road rash on my right knee, but other than that I'm fine. Woot for a "safe" fall.

I also swam with the kids for an hour last night.

WHILE PUSHING THE JOGGING STROLLER!!!! That's the farthest AND the fastest I've ever done while pushing the jogging stroller. I think it was because S was being super good for me. Maybe she was making up for screaming at me earlier in the week during our run ;)

Wednesday Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Week 3 (25 minutes)

Five pound free weights this time. It went by much faster while watching a video on the internet (from the next room, but still a very nice distraction). I decided since strength workouts are my least favorite, that I might as well do one that gets the best results! I bought this DVD and a few others from JM so I can do them 2-3 times a week without ordering and re-ordering from the library.

Wednesday Running 30 minutes (while pushing the jogging stroller)

Watershed trail. I had to cut my run short due to the threat of rain and my toddler was squalling at the top of her lungs for the last 10 minutes. Then, the little booger had the nerve to fall asleep just as we were almost back to the car! I woke her up because I wanted her to nap later. I think I will do Jillian Michaels later tonight. I hope it's not too wet to trail run tomorrow!

Trying Not to Fizzle Out

I ran 6.8 miles yesterday with Trent. I got up at 4:15 to run with the group, but apparently the snow scared everyone away. The roads were perfectly fine, but NO ONE was there. Disgruntled, I went back home. But not to be stopped, I called Trent and we went and did a MONSTER hill run. It was WAY hill intense! That little jerk just went up those hills like he had springs in his legs. I, on the other hand, felt like I was trying to run on a different planet with about triple gravity working on me. He made me feel like a totally old, out of shape woman. Oh well. It was a KILLER run!

Then I came home and did my taxes. I completely blew my diet. I was still in the maintaining range, but certainly not in the losing weight range. I'm not doing so well with the diet today either. Oh well, I'll just have to pull myself up and start again, again.

I'm supposed to go and ride that stupid trainer in the basement today, but I just don't want to. Oh well, I guess I should just quit whining and do it already.

Update: Trainer done. 40 minutes of torture.

Tuesday Swimming 1 hour

10 minutes breast stroke
10 minutes freestyle
10 minutes back stroke
10 minutes freestyle
10 minutes backstroke
10 minutes kick board

I figured out I swim about a mile (without the kick board work). So, a mile in 50 minutes sounds pretty good to me ;). I'm getting better at my freestyle turns, and my back stroke is improving by leaps and bound as well.

Also- watched three kids in a dental office waiting room for an hour so my friend could get some emergency dental work done. I also did a few loads of laundry. I am pretty tired now ;)

Last Week

Sorry I fell off the radar a bit! Last week was that time of the month for me, and then on top of it I had migraines for about five days straight. Boo! So, not much exercising going on.
I weighed in last week, and had gained two pounds. Not too surprising because of my girly time, I just threw the diet out the window. But I got back on things, and so when I weighed in yesterday, I lost five pounds! Yay!! So that makes a total of ten pounds since I started weight watchers back up four weeks ago. Go me!
Oh, and I broke my toe last Saturday. Not sure how much exercise I'll be able to do, this week especially. I'm going to try to do the bike tomorrow or the next day, though. We'll see how it goes.

Monday Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Week 3 (25 minutes)

I used the 10 lb free weights again. Super hard! I hope it gets easier again after I do it that way a few times like it did with Week 1 and Week 2.

I wanted to swim tonight, but the weather seemed to nasty for the drive :(

Friday & Saturday

I did Jillian Ripped in 30 week 4 on Friday. I did a trail run on Saturday 7.5 miles. I also took a mini vacation from my diet. Well from counting anyway. I don't think I did anything horrible though. I don't think I ate any less than I burned, but I don't think I went way overboard either. I'm calling it a wash. I'm back to counting today though. I need to do Jillian today, but I'm not feeling great. I'm going to get to it soon.

update: I did JM RI30, week 3. blah. On the opening thing, it says that you need two sets of weights: One lighter and one heavier, but she never says when to use which. I am definitely feeling like I should use heavier weights for some of it.

Thursday Trail Running 55 minutes (in my Vibrams)

I found the trail on the other side of the ravine! It was pretty short though (only took me 20 minutes total). I also explored another area and found yet another (scary) bridge. I love the exploration aspect of trail running!

Right after that I helped my mom clear out her kitchen for an hour and a half.

I'm pretty tired now ;)


I did 40 minutes on the bike (trainer) today. It's been 4 weeks since I started on spark people. So far I've lost the 5 lbs that I put on (in one week). I've lost one inch from my waist and pretty much nothing anywhere else. My hips measured exactly the same. They didn't have me measure my bust, but I wish they would have. I bet I've lost weight there. lol! It's getting easier to stick to a sensible diet. I'm totally not starving myself, if anyone is wondering. I'm just trying to keep it under control. I'm sticking to about 1800 calories a day, plus I'm trying to make them mostly healthy, but I'm so not giving up chocolate. I give myself a bit everyday. All in all, I'm happy with how this is going.

Wednesday JM 30 Day Shred Workout 2 (25 minutes)

I used the 10 lb free weights, which makes workout 2 even harder. I like it better though. I know I'm burning lots of calories and building the muscle I enjoy having. I might have to buy this DVD ;)


Jillian Ripped in 30, Week 4. Tough! I'm afraid to say that the diet is going well, because I'm due to crash any day now. Probably today.

Tuesday Yoga 40 minutes

Tuesday Running 3 miles (35 minutes)

Still fast for me, but not a long run like I wanted. I sprinted the last 1/8 mile or so. I still am hitting (hopefully) the tail end of this cold.

I might try to do yoga later to work out some kinks.


I ran the hill route with the group again today. I felt pretty good today. Of course that may have been because most of the fast people were missing today, so I wasn't killing myself trying to keep up. I do think that I have pretty much recovered from my 2 months off. Yay!

Also- took a screaming toddler through a grocery store. The writhing child workout? I had to take three days off due to some horrible version of a cold that one of my children cursed me with. I hate taking breaks from exercise! I was still feeling yucky today so I did not get much else done.


I was sick yesterday. I'm mostly better today, but I didn't feel up to doing the planned Jillian routine. I went for a 5.5 mile walk instead.

I ran 13 miles yesterday. It's amazing the difference that having someone to talk to adds! Last week, I was alone for the last 6.5 miles. It sucked. This week I had folks with me the entire time. Much better.

Thursday Exercise Bike + Strength 45 minutes

I did 10 minutes on the bike X 3. In between I used the 10 lb free weight for arms, and also added in lunges, push ups, and ab work. I'm trying to mix up the bike with strength ala Jillian Michaels for maximum effectiveness. I noticed I look a lot more "sculpted" after a week of doing JM twice, so I'm trying to keep up that look.


Got a workout in yesterday! Woot! I did 18 min of alternating bike and elliptical. I did pretty rubbishy on my diet yesterday, but what're ya gonna do? It's been a hard week, diet-wise.
Jonni spent the night ralphing, so I'm pretty tired today, not sure if I'll work out or not, but I really want to. Also, won't be able to tomorrow because Griffin (VA's baby) is going back into the hospital, so I will be going there tomorrow, if Jonni is well, to help out.

Wednesday Running 1 hour (4 miles while pushing jogging stroller)

Sorsha was so good again in the jogging stroller! I think she really likes the way I jerry rigged it to help her sit up better.

Also- walked for an hour with the kids again, and chased Sorsha all over the library for an hour while the older kids did reading and craft time.


Yeah, I spoke too soon. I totally bombed my diet yesterday. Oh well, today is another day.

I rode my bike in the basement for 40 minutes this morning. Blah.
